In 1949, Frank McNamara design a card to prove the identity of the holder and the ability to pay. Thus was launched the Diners Club card, which, in a year and had a membership of 10,000 users. In the decade of 50 Diners Club was the first organization to introduce credit card travel insurance. The decade of 60 saw the old paper card into plastic, in the decade of 70 presented the first Diners Club corporate card program in the industry. Today, Diners Club Card is welcomed at over 13 million locations worldwide.
Since October 2003, the United Kingdom and Ireland, DinersClub belongs to Citigroup, which also owns the franchise of DinersClub in France and the Benelux countries.
